One machine. More possibilities: the evolution of FlailDek

From a proven platform with more than 30 years of development behind it to a versatile machine designed for today’s diverse grounds maintenance requirements, the new Trimax FlailDek S4 builds on what has made the range successful while introducing practical improvements for modern operators.

A proven platform, continually evolving

The FlailDek story began in the mid-1980s, when a customer approached Trimax with a request to front-mount a Trimax Ezeemow on a Yanmar 186 tractor. The concept demonstrated the potential of front-mounted flail mowing, eventually leading to the first FlailDek prototype in 1994 and full production in 1998.

Since then, each generation has evolved in response to customer feedback and practical innovation. The latest Series 4 (S4) continues that philosophy, combining the proven FlailDek platform with improvements designed to reduce maintenance, improve efficiency and enhance usability.

The approach has also earned recognition at this year’s GroundsFest Awards, where the FlailDek S4 has been shortlisted in the Stood the Test of Time category, recognising products that demonstrate enduring excellence through incremental improvements to a proven design.

Designed to do more

While mowing remains at the heart of the FlailDek S4, its versatility extends beyond conventional grass cutting.

Optional Y flails provide a finer finish in certain applications, while scarifying knives and the ability to set a negative height of cut introduce dethatching and scarifying capability. The converter flap can also be repositioned to switch between versatile mowing and specialised mulching applications.

The result is one machine capable of tackling different seasonal requirements, without the need to bring in a separate implement for dethatching or specialist mulching work.

That versatility makes the S4 suitable for a wide range of environments, from council and contractor grass maintenance to golf course roughs and surrounds, estates, parks, schools and sports fields. Its ability to follow contours independently from the tractor, combined with a cutting height range of 0–110mm, further supports its use across varied ground conditions.

Built for public spaces

For councils and contractors working in areas where pedestrians and staff may be sharing the same ground, safe clipping management is an important consideration.

The FlailDek S4’s clipping dispersion directs debris downwards behind the mower, helping to reduce the risk of material being projected into surrounding areas during mowing.

Less maintenance, more uptime

The S4 has also been developed with day-to-day ownership in mind. Sealed-for-life roller bearings remove the need for daily greasing, while reinforced link arms are designed to improve strength and operator comfort. A double helical rotor is designed to cut efficiently while drawing less horsepower and operating more quietly.

A configurable gearbox mount provides two pre-set positions for improved alignment with different power units, while a replaceable internal liner helps reduce noise and extend mower life.

Proven in demanding conditions

For Grasstex, which carries out urban and rural grass-cutting contracts across Surrey, Sussex and Kent, FlailDek machines can work for six to seven hours a day across challenging terrain, including road verges.

“Reliability and efficiency are vital to Grasstex, and the Trimax FlailDek consistently helps us deliver both. It has improved our productivity by helping us cover ground quickly while maintaining a professional finish, particularly during the peak season.” – Lukas Ozana, Contract Manager, Grasstex.

The FlailDek S4 represents the latest evolution of a proven design: a machine built not simply to mow, but to give professional grounds teams greater flexibility across applications, seasons and operating environments – all backed by Trimax’s industry-leading three-year warranty.
